Hoka, Salomon and Adidas Terrex make up the leading trio in the first-ever international ranking of trail running teams. At the top of the collective-performance pyramid (World Trail Team), they are followed by On, Asics and ACG Nike.
Kailas and The North Face respectively top the two lower divisions: the Continental Trail Team and the Challenger Trail Team.

This global ranking – mixed and gender-balanced – was compiled by calculating the average performance indices of the four best male athletes and four best female athletes in each team — as of November 25, 2025 — after harmonising and therefore re-evaluating women’s “scores” relative to men’s, using a mathematical formula developed by Enduraw.
Following consultations with team managers — or at least those who chose to take part, representing a majority — one key point emerged: the desire to structure the ranking into multiple categories.
In this context, and inspired by the model used in several professional sports, the international ranking of trail running teams has been organised into three hierarchical divisions: World Trail Team (6 teams), Continental Trail Team (8 teams) and Challenger Trail Team (10 teams).
Five teams listed below with their Q4 composition do not appear in the final ranking, as their average rating places them below the third division (Challenger Team). These are Compressport, NNormal and Rossignol — penalised for now by the absence of a fourth female athlete — as well as Arc’teryx and Wise Ultra Running, two teams whose priorities lie more in adventure projects and ultra-endurance challenges than in competitive events.
Two distinct rankings were produced: one based on ITRA performance indices, the other on UTMB Index scores. Neither system has achieved universal acceptance in recent years — partly due to their confidential and therefore opaque nature — yet both are frequently referenced and widely used. This is why both were considered for this first edition, even though doing so may hinder overall clarity and complicate the analysis, as the two systems occasionally diverge. Notably, however, the six teams at the top of the pyramid are identical in both rankings.
All data used in this international ranking are publicly available. The creation of this ranking — the result of volunteer work involving its initiator Fred Bousseau, the data scientists at Enduraw, and Distances+ — is driven by the desire to provide neutral, factual information for those following the evolution and professionalisation of elite trail running. This ranking is one analytical tool among others.
The calculations were finalised at the end of November 2025 and will be updated every three months. Athlete performance levels may therefore vary from one quarter to the next. Athlete transfers may also affect the ranking in the future.
The creation of this trail team ranking was made possible thanks to the valuable collaboration of Fred Bousseau.
Here is the list of international trail-running teams (first ITRA, then UTMB), presented in alphabetical order along with their rosters. Only the top four male athletes and the top four female athletes from each team (even when the squad is large, as is the case for Asics) were considered to establish this first-ever world ranking.
Key fact: After normalizing performance indices — a process that makes it easier to compare the level of male and female athletes — among the 29 teams listed below, 17 are led by female athletes (59%) based on UTMB Index, compared with 13 teams (45%) when using ITRA performance scores.
